Biorhythms: Cycles of Soul -- Excerpts from Chapter 10

  • This model is based on the four major aspects that comprise you as a human experience on the physical plane. These aspects are the physical, the emotional, the mental, and the spiritual … and each has an inner and outer part.
  • These facets are subject to long, fixed regulating cycles, or biorhythms, providing a framework for the faster daily or hourly cycles of each part. Imagine a city with all its activity, yet with everyone using the same calendar and clock setting to regulate their activities. As we'll see, the biorhythms are of a fixed duration, and emanate from the Inner Self and above (the Cosmic Self) to help create and sustain us in the lower dimensions of reality.
  • The awareness of our cycles is not profound in itself, for we are also far more than our cycles. The importance here is the knowledge and awareness of ourselves and the aspects that make us up, so that we can have full access to the gifts, talents and wisdoms that they contain and offer to our lives. Most people tend to favor the input of only one or two of their aspects while the others go barely noticed or listened to. But by watching the cycles of all four of the aspects, and noticing their interactions and styles, all that you are will come to be honored, accessed and heard. Thus your aspects can then become more allied and aligned in a their common goal, and form a solid team, in fully expressing the Spirit that you are on the planet and on your life … for the creation of "Heaven on Earth" begins within ourselves.
  • The physical aspect is the most obvious and most dense of the four aspects, and the most "real" from our perspective. And it is, of course, the only one that we can see, hear, touch, taste and smell on a purely physical level, as it has its existence in third dimensional reality. But it is much more complex than a collection of chemicals. It has its own consciousness that works with many, many cycles, from the very rapid cycles of each single cell to the 90-minute cycle of brain activity, to the daily waking and sleeping cycle, to name but a few. Yet it is subject to a longer 23-day cycle-an overarching regulatory system that helps to regulate the faster cycles within it.
  • The emotional aspect is the next higher frequency up from the physical, and exists in the lower astral (4th dimensional) plane. It has a fixed 28-day cycle, set to the cycle of the moon (the body in astrology that rules the emotions). The mental aspect, existing in the upper 4th dimension or upper astral plane, is the next higher in frequency, with a longer biorhythm of 33 days. And the spiritual aspect, with a higher frequency still, has a very long rhythm of 56 days, exactly twice that of the emotional aspect, or two lunar months. This means that the spiritual aspect is in one half of its cycle for one full lunar month, or one complete cycle of the emotional aspect.

The Cyclical Nature of the Universe

  • As we've seen, everything in nature exist in opposites, and these are most stable when they are alternate to create balance. All systems have a natural rhythm consisting of two phases: the yang phase with outward release of energy and the yin phase which restores the system and prepares it for the next active phase. It is impossible to have one without the other.
  • In our daily life, we see this same natural rhythm. We have active periods when we expend energy by working, thinking, walking, and so on. Then we go into yin periods where we rest, sleep, eat, drink, or reflect on the active phase. We all know that our efficiency depends on the balance between these two phases. Nothing can go on for ever, and if we are active for too long, as with sleep deprivation, we lose touch with reality and begin hallucinating as the aspect forces us into rest. If we are yin for too long, we begin to feel listless and edgy as the body tries to initiate an active phase.
  • The point when a system switches from one phase to the other is a time of stress and vulnerability. The car engine piston stops and begins going the other way. You stop work and start to rest. As we'll see, these changes in direction or flow can catch us off guard and cause problems.
  • Now our daily lives are subject to longer cycles that govern our physical stamina (23 days), our emotional state (28 days), our mental state (33 days), and our spiritual state (56 days). Prior to birth, the fetus follows the mother's rhythms because its body, emotions, and thoughts are wholly determined by the mother. But at the moment of birth, the newborn's body, emotions, mental capability, and spiritual connection are freed of its mother's biorhythms and the newborn begins an active phase for each of its personal cycles. Those cycles immediately follow their own timing and will not come back into synchronization for many years.
  • You have been living with these cycles since birth, and they have been influencing your health, feelings, and thoughts. So let's take a deeper look at them.

It's very important that you know your cycles, and that you honor them, possibly scheduling the events of your daily life around them. This knowledge is not meant to allow you to feel victimized by them or so you can find excuses within them, but just so you can work with them in your life. How can you discover your cycles? The Internet is an enormous resource, and a Google search uncovers hundreds of biorhythm generators.

Crossover Days

  • On 5 8 days a month, you are in some kind of flux from either yang to yin, or yin to yang in one or more cycles. For the last 11, 14, or 16 days, you have been driven by one sort of energy or the other, outward or inward looking. And today, you switch modes.
  • Crossing from a yang, outward phase to a yin phase may catch you off guard. The change in physical energy, of emotional expression, or of mental agility may make you feel irritated, thwarted, or that you've so much to do but not the resources to do it. Of course, you will swing back the other way, but yang to yin crossover days may leave you feeling empty until you adjust to the new pace of the next two weeks or so. You may be more affected by external factors than usual, like another driver that cuts into your traffic lane. You may be a little distracted or spacey while working with machinery. And innocuous remarks by co workers, friends, and your partner may catch you off-guard and you over react.
  • Yang to yin crossover days are also unsettling but for different reasons. For two weeks or so, you've got used to being more withdrawn, introspective, or less active physically. You've become comfortable with keeping your thoughts or feelings to yourself. However, now new energy begins to flow and need to share this with others, but the flow may be jerky or uncoordinated. It may come in sudden bursts of anger, clarity, or impulses to do things. You may take a risk while driving but don't have the coordination to pull it off. You can also be distracted by an idea or feeling while using machinery.

You and Those Around You: a New Perspective

  • Because your rhythms, and those of other people, are fixed at 23, 28, 33 and 56 days, if you are in synch with someone else, you will stay in synch for the rest of your lives. And if you are out of synch, you will remain out of synch. Therefore, it's vital that you know how you mesh with those around you. (Because the Spiritual cycle is so subtle, and affects your relationship with Spirit, the degree of Spiritual cycle meshing is less significant.)
  • You may always be arguing with your mate, but not know why and blame yourself for being a bad partner. Knowing that it's just a poorly meshing Emotional cycle allows you to compensate, especially when you or your partner is on a crossover day.
  • However, non matching cycles is not bad! Some of the most profound and stable relationships are between those with 180 degree mismatches in their Emotional cycle because when one is up and nurturing, the other is down and needs nurturing, and vice versa.
  • The important thing to know for each cycle is by how many days the two of you differ.
